I posted something yesterday mentioning that I was brought to tears, and I ended up getting a lot of responses on it. They were all very positive (it was a tear of joy, so it was a positive post).
It did get me thinking though, I feel like I may have a bit of a different view on tears (and crying in general), and it might be cool to spark a bit of discussion on the subject.
Have you ever been so sad that you cried? I have. How about happy? I have been there as well. Now, what about angry? I've cried tears of anger for sure. Fearful? Yep.
Thus: I feel that the absolute height of ANY emotion on the spectrum is crying. And as such, the stereotype that 'Real men don't cry' is like saying 'If life is like a roller coaster, real men... stick to the merry-go-round.'

I've found that older I get, the easier the tears...I like to think it is due to the empirical view...

@migz_2K13 that could be true, the knowledge acquired through experience allows you to know yourself more, and thus feel more in general. It also doesn't hurt that as we age, we mature, and silly notions like 'men don't cry' are revealed as juvenile.

sadness... happiness... anger... yes, yes and yes. though what gets my eyes wet most of the time is gratitude. you know... when people made others extremely happy, so those people do something awesome in return or just express how thankful they are in a really touching way. i know this probably counts as "happiness" but i had to mention it, cause it affects me a lot even if im not involved.

@KwonHa You can be happy without being grateful for anything, and you can (though it doesn't often work like this) be grateful without being happy. That qualifies it as its own emotion in my book.

@LeifWoodman Why should not a man cry? Why should not appear for all the sun! Why should not shine for all the moon! Crying also attests to strength!

@littlefighter Well said! I totally agree with you, but (in my country at least), crying (for men) is seen as a stigma, and more often than not, met with ridicule. Just ignorant stereotypes. I'm sure every country has their share of them

Im a man and I have no problem crying when I must. Sometimes I even cry at commercials. That makes me sad that I cry over a commercial!
